Singing?????????????

I am a song writer but I am still learning how to sing... I am not British and I am not American.. I have an accent but I don't want my voice to sound weird in my songs.. is it normal for singers to sing in an basic standard accent so the listeners would understand what they are singing? Do singers plan every note and how they sing it? I find myself thinking while singing... like how I am going to sing this note ect.. Is that normal?
